Mari Nerome
Ph.D. in Art Studies (Fine Arts and Cultural Art Studies)
Artist, Designer
Studied Japanese traditional dyeing techniques, Katazome (stencil dyeing) and Nori-bousen (resist dyeing with paste), at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. She completed her doctoral studies in 2025.
While preserving the sophisticated beauty of the traditional technique, She fuses it with her own contemporary point of view to create classic art with a modern sensibility.
The power of nature inspires her works, and she combines them with her own interpretations in her creative activities. In her works, she expresses the worship and awe of nature that cannot be controlled by human power, the origin of life, and the mystery of death. At the same time, she weaves into her works the human dimensions of concealed emotions and madness, with some pieces centering on these very themes.
Although her specialization lies in dyeing art, yet her practice extends across design, photography, art performance, and singing, positioning her as a multidisciplinary artist.

MARI NEROME
博士（芸術学）、アーティスト、デザイナー
根路銘まり—沖縄県立芸術大学にて、伝統工芸紅型に用いられる型染・糊防染を学び、その技法を用いて作品を制作している。古くから伝わる技法の洗練された美しさを残しながらそれを独自の感覚と融合させ、新たな伝統の形を追求している。
自然物をモチーフに、人の力ではコントロールすることのできない自然への崇拝と畏れ、生と死の神秘などを題材に作品を手がけている。一方で、人の心の奥底に秘めた感情や狂気、死生観など、人間的な部分も作品の中に入れるようにしており、これらを主題に用いた作品もある。
専門は染色芸術だが、デザイン、写真、アートパフォーマンス、歌など、総合芸術として幅広い分野で活動している。
展示会はじめ、イベントへの出店・ゲスト出演など、芸術を通した心の交流を目的に国内外で精力的に活動を続けている。
2025年3月に沖縄県立芸術大学院、後期博士課程を修了。
